Rumors say Apple’s new OLED MacBook Pro could be released earlier than planned

Apple is widely expected to release a significantly improved version of the MacBook Pro later this year or in early 2027. Among the many changes expected with this refresh is new OLED display technology.

A new rumor today indicates that Apple’s partner Samsung Display has started mass production of OLED screens that will be included in the new MacBook Pro ahead of schedule.

OLED touchscreen MacBook coming soon

This rumor comes from the Naver account yeux1122, but should be treated with skepticism as this source does not have the best track record. Still, the timeline is broadly consistent with reports from more reliable sources, including: bloomberg’s Mark Garman.

According to today’s rumors, Samsung Display was originally scheduled to start producing this OLED display in the second quarter of 2026. This suggests that the company is producing displays for Apple’s new MacBook Pro ahead of schedule.

This rumor also confirms previous reports that Apple will use the same tandem OLED display technology in the MacBook Pro as in the iPad Pro. Rumors suggest that it will have (translated from Korean) “the highest quality of all OLED laptops released so far.”

In addition to an OLED display, the refreshed MacBook Pro will be equipped with Apple’s M6 chip. It will also reportedly have a thinner and lighter design than the current MacBook Pro. bloomberg reported last year that the new MacBook Pro would also have a touchscreen, making this the first time Apple has released a touchscreen Mac.

Finally, the notch will reportedly be replaced with a new hole-punch design that uses a single cutout to accommodate the FaceTime camera.

One important thing to remember is that Apple has one more update coming to the current generation MacBook Pro. The company is expected to release new high-end M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro models as early as this month. An all-new M6 MacBook Pro lineup is expected to follow later this year or early 2027.
