Rumors point to iPhone 17 Pro adopting an Apple Watch Ultra-Style antenna

We’re one day closer to Apple officially unveiling the iPhone 17 Pro, and Majin Bu has one more rumour about what could happen. This time we’ve surpassed changes to the iPhone 17 Pro antenna system…

Citing the source, Majin Bu says that Apple will reposition the antenna system around a huge new camera bar on the back of the iPhone 17 Pro.

According to my sources, Apple plans to introduce significant structural changes on the iPhone 17 Pro. This is the rearrangement of the antennas around the rear camera module. This design choice reflects the approach used in the Apple Watch Ultra. This approach strategically integrates the antennas to maximize reception and signal stability.

As he points out, this design is similar to the antenna system used in the multiband antenna system used in the Apple Watch Ultra. The difference is, of course, that the iPhone 17 Pro camera module is the size of at least two Apple Watch Ultra displays.

One reason for this change is that new arrangements tend to signal shielding and interference. There is some logic as I keep my iPhone from below rather than on the camera system.

According to Majin Bu, Apple is also making this change to improve how the electromagnetic energy of antennas is distributed in space. In traditional designs, the user’s grip and nearby metal parts can distort this radiation pattern and limit coverage.

By placing the antenna around the camera module, Apple achieves a more consistent main lobe spread, reducing vertical and diagonal shadow zones, and improving efficiency in dense signal environments such as cities and complex indoor spaces.

That level of detail suggests it’s not entirely speculative, and Majin Bu has a decent track record.

Apple is hoping to officially announce the iPhone 17 Pro from just four weeks starting tomorrow, with an announcement of an event that is likely to occur later this month.
