Ring launches new AI-powered single event alert feature for UK users

Ring has launched a new generative AI feature for UK customers aimed at reducing notification overload from smart doorbells and security cameras.

The update, called Single Event Alert, builds on Ring’s existing video description feature and is designed to make motion notifications clearer and less repetitive.

The feature will be available to Ring Home subscribers in the UK from December 10th and will work with all existing Ring video doorbells and cameras, so no new hardware is required.

Rather than alerting you every time motion is detected during the same activity, Single Event Alerts are designed to give you a more complete and useful overview of what’s happening around your home.

Single Event Alert uses AI to analyze Ring video descriptions and intelligently group repeated motion alerts that occur during the same event into a single notification. For example, if the kids are playing in the yard or someone spends a few minutes on the porch, users will receive a single, unified alert instead of multiple notifications in quick succession.

According to Ring, this approach aims to reduce notification fatigue without sacrificing awareness. Alerts provide a high-level view of activity, so users can quickly decide whether they should open the app or if it’s safe to ignore the motion.

The company positions Single Event Alert as a quality-of-life improvement for busy households where frequent motion alerts can become distracting over time. We’re also directly building on Ring’s video description capabilities, which already use AI to generate short summaries of motion events.
