Estimated Reading Time: 6 Min
Philips Hue’s smart lights are some of the most reliable and intuitive things we’ve had the pleasure of using, but that doesn’t mean that when we need to reset them, it’s not.
Maybe something on the smart home chain is being played. You may just want to give your shade system to friends, sell it, or start configuring your smart home again from scratch.
Whether you have a standard Phillips tint bulb or a bridge, whether you have a Phillips Few Bluetooth bulb, resetting your Phillips Hue smart bulb is easy and shouldn’t take too long. So, whether it’s a single bulb or resetting the entire system, here’s a way to proceed.

How to remove or reset a light bulb in Philips Hue
If you have one Philips Hue bulb or standalone lamp and want to reset or remove Hue Light yourself, you will need to use the Hue app on Android or iOS. This is how you set up the bulb first.
Please tap from the main app screen.”setting‘(bottom right corner), and then choose’Light‘.
Tap the light you want to reset, then tap.erase‘. The device is forgotten by the app and ready to be added again or used on a completely different system.
If you are not using the Hue Bridge or the Hue app, please check within the app you are using.
For example, you can remove a Hue bulb from a Zigbee-enabled Echo smart speaker and reset it by tapping “Device” in the Alexa app. Select the Room Group, Light Bulb, then Settings Cog (top right), and the Garbage icon (top right again).
If you have an official Phillips tone dimmer switch at home, you can also reset the bulb. With the light in question turned on, hold the dimmer switch nearby and hold the on and off buttons for about 10 seconds.
If the light flashes and then stops blinking, the bulb will be reset.
Reset the Phillips Hue Bridge

For a more comprehensive reset, the hue bridge can be returned to factory settings. This will reset all the lamps and bulbs on the system at the same time. The Hue Bridge and Lights need to be set up again from scratch, just like when you first purchased them.
There isn’t much in the process here. If you exceed the Hue Bridge, you should notice the “Factory Settings” button as shown above.
Hold this for a few seconds and the entire system will be reset. You will need a paper clip or other small, thin object to penetrate the hole next to the label.
The official Philips Hue support documentation recommends that you reset your system only if you are instructed by your customer service advisor. It’s not to be underestimated. Depending on your setup, you may need to enter the serial number of the hue bulb to be re-added after reset.
Remember that resetting the Hue Bridge means that all the lights and accessories are forgotten on the network. You’ll lose preferences, light groups, scenes, routines, widgets, and more. That’s really the last resort option.

Reconfigure your Philips Hue network
Whenever possible, we recommend that you avoid resetting the Philips Hue bulbs and Philips Hue Bridge.
Make sure you are considering all the other troubleshooting options available before removing the light from your system or triggering the Hue Bridge factory reset button.
For example, if you want to reconfigure your bulbs or assign them to different rooms, this can be easily done within the Hue app. Tap to a specific room from the (Home) tab and tap the (Menu) button (3 dots, top position) to add a new light or rename what you have.
choose ‘Editing Room‘And with this app you can switch lights. You can add or remove light bulbs and lamps to the current room, and you can also rename the element by tapping the pen in the top right corner. If you move your hue upstairs (or downstairs), this is a way to change your hue setup without resetting anything.
The same goes for third-party apps and platforms, but you may need to review the official support documentation in detail.
For example, if you added Philips Hue to Google Home Network, go to the Google Home app on your phone. Tap the (Settings) tab at the bottom right, then tap the bulb you want to delete to unlock it from the Google Home network.

What is “cleanup” in the Philips Hue app?
Click the (Settings) button in the bottom right corner and tap “Hue Bridge Settings” to see a screen with the “Cleanup” option.
It’s attractive, isn’t it?
However, you will need to just tap and make sure you know what it does. It is as follows:
Remove all data from the bridge, away from rooms, zones, groups, and lights. Effectively remove all scenes, automation, schedules and smart control configurations from Hue and third-party apps.
This is definitely something you can give it a try if you’re having issues and are considering a hard reset of your hue system.
