Google’s long-teased Gemini for Home voice assistant is finally rolling out in early access across the United States. The move follows a testing phase that began in October, allowing a small number of users to shape what is likely to be the biggest Google Home update since the Assistant first debuted.
Think of Gemini as a smarter, chatterier version of your existing voice assistant. Once you sign up, your speaker or display will be upgraded from Google Assistant to Gemini at no additional cost.
You’ll notice better answers, smoother control of your smart devices, and finally, the ability to have conversations without having to keep shouting “Hey Google” every few seconds.
For the particularly curious, there’s a Google Home Premium subscription that unlocks Gemini Live. That means you can have more natural conversations, ask follow-up questions, and brainstorm dinner ideas on the spot.
The best part? Gemini works with any Google speaker or display manufactured after 2016. This includes the Nest Hub, Nest Hub Max, Nest Audio, and even the old forgotten first-generation Google Home Mini. They are all smarter and you will definitely notice the difference.
You can ask Google what meeting you have tomorrow, what you can make with the ingredients in your fridge, or ask Google to turn off all the lights in your house except for the kitchen light. This is a great update and changes the way you interact with your smart home assistant.
If you live in the US, you can sign up for early access now in the Google Home app. The rest will have to wait until 2026.
