DJI’s first robot vacuum series has landed in Europe and it looks pretty cool

DJI just announced ROMO, a line of robot vacuums that brings the smarts of drones down to floor level. It will be rolled out in select European markets from today, but a UK release date has not yet been determined.

The party secret is millimeter-level obstacle sensing, which avoids 2mm cables and even playing cards. Dual fisheye vision and wide-angle solid-state LiDAR work with machine learning to see under the couch and maintain orientation in low-light conditions.

When it comes to navigation, leverage DJI’s mapping technology to plan tighter routes with fewer missed spots. Sneak up to table legs and corners, avoiding socks, spills, and other hazards. Power is never shy either. The suction power is up to 25,000 Pa and the air volume is 20 liters per second. When it finds cat litter, ROMO slows down the wheels and side brushes to avoid the litter from flying around before cleaning.

The cleaning hardware features twin high-torque roller brushes that force debris into a hollow center that lifts hair, dirt, and large debris without tangles.

The retractable arm, on the other hand, extends along the edges to get to those tricky corners, cleaning wider than the mop’s path so you don’t get messed up. For mopping, the 164ml onboard tank evenly moistens the pad across large rooms and increases water output for stubborn dirt for a more convincing scrub.

The flagship product, ROMO P, offers compartments for dosing cleaning solutions and floor deodorizers directly onto the pad. There is also a sound deadening chamber, so the cleaning sound will be quieter than the roar.

The base station flushes away debris with 4 high-pressure jets and a 16 mm waste outlet, and provides 12 N pad pressure to properly clean the mop. According to DJI, manual maintenance intervals can be up to 200 days. Dust collection is performed through a 3-stage noise suppression feature that cuts noise by up to 80%, making it kid-friendly, pet-friendly, and movie-night friendly.

Control everything with the DJI Home app. The interface is clean, with presets and one-tap routines, plus alerts for when your clean water is low or your tank is full. There are specialized modes for carpets, thresholds, kitchens and bathrooms, and pet zones. Onboard sensors also serve as an easy home check-in with two-factor activation on first use, encrypted video, and the option to disable the camera completely.

Charging is 55W fast charging, which takes about 2.5 hours to fully charge. Accessories also include additional brushes and pads, deodorant, cleaning fluid, and a ramp for higher thresholds. Priced at 1,899 euros for ROMO P, 1,599 euros for ROMA A and 1,299 euros for ROMO S, available to order at store.dji.com and authorized partners.
