Apple will rely on Intel for future iPhone chips, analysts reaffirm

According to multiple reports, Apple is looking to rely on Intel for future iPhone chips. Now, analyst Jeff Pu released a new research note today that reaffirms the future partnership between the two companies.

Pu reported in December that Intel would begin producing chips for Apple’s non-Pro iPhone models starting in 2028.

In the research notes seen by 9to5 mac Today, Pu said Intel has a “robust external customer pipeline” for 14A, the company’s 1.4nm class process technology. Its pipeline includes companies like Apple, AMD, and Nvidia.

“We reiterate our expectations for potential order wins such as Apple’s SP SoC and NVDA/AMD’s x86 server chips,” Pu said.

Ming-Chi Kuo also reported that Intel will “start shipping Apple’s lowest-end M processors as early as 2027.” This is likely the base model M7 chip, which could be used in some iPad and Mac models.

Under the agreement, Apple will continue to develop and design its own iPhone and Mac processors in-house. The difference is that instead of using TSMC exclusively to manufacture these chips, Intel will come on board as an additional partner. This isn’t a return to the Intel chips found in Macs (or iPhones).
