Apple maintains an updated list of products it calls “vintage” and “obsolete,” and recent additions to that list include the iPhone 11 Pro, Apple Watch Series 5, and more.
iPhone 11 Pro, Apple Watch Series 5, etc. are now considered “vintage”
Apple is generally known for producing durable hardware. However, at some point, the company will no longer be able to provide repairs or service parts for older devices.
That’s where the company’s list of vintage and outdated products comes in.
You can find a complete list of products marked as “vintage” or “out of print” on Apple’s website.
- “Vintage” refers to products that have been out of stock for more than five years.
- “Obsolete” means 7 years have passed since the product was discontinued
What difference does it make? Outdated products are not eligible for service, but vintage products are eligible for service. Basically, a vintage designation indicates that there will be fewer opportunities for repairs in the near future.
Apple’s newest addition to its Vintage list today (via mcroomers) includes the iPhone 11 Pro, Apple Watch Series 5, 2020 13-inch MacBook Air with Intel, iPad Air 3 with Cellular, and the last remaining iPhone 8 Plus model (with 128GB storage).
The iPhone 11 Pro probably stands out on the list because it’s the model that still receives the latest iOS software updates. However, this is the oldest iPhone model that can run iOS 26.
For now, users can still get their iPhone 11 Pro repaired through Apple. However, being added to the vintage list means the device has only two years left before it is considered obsolete and is no longer eligible for repair.
