Ring Video Doorbell is a great kit for monitoring the front or back of the home.
Not only will they allow you to answer the door when you’re not at home, they will also detect movement and warn you if something appears to be incorrect.
If, like us, you have your ring video doorbell in the front of your house and you have a sidewalk in the front, then we recommend considering setting up a camera motion zone to make sure that those alerts are actually useful, rather than actually passing by your house.
There is a separate feature to set up a privacy zone on your ring device, adjusting the motion settings, but here we explain how to set up a camera motion zone on your ring video doorbell and ring camera.

Rings have different ways to filter motion settings. If you have a compatible device, you can set up a bird eye zone, but with smart alerts you can get motion alerts and recordings for the alerts you need, such as people and packages. However, it is worth keeping in mind as you will need a Ring Protection subscription.
Regarding camera motion zones, you can draw areas within the field of view within the ring video doorbell (or ring camera) and specify where the device wants to monitor motion.
When you set up a camera motion zone, the ring device only detects motion within these areas, ignores sidewalks and bushes that may blow when the wind is strong, and triggers false motion alerts.

Follow the same steps as setting it as a camera motion zone. When opening a camera motion zone, you must tap Edit Zone and “Delete Zone” to remove the zone.
When you set up a camera motion zone, you will only be notified of movements that occur within that zone. Video recording still takes place around the camera motion zone, so if you don’t want that to happen, set up a privacy zone instead.
