Ninja Crispi Review

Ninja Crispi is not your usual air fryer. This is a modular cooking system that throws away traditional fixed body designs for a more flexible approach. Using two different sized glass cooking dishes makes meal preparation easier by sizing the size of the dish to fit the portions or allowing different foods to be cooked continuously without constant cleaning. The container also doubles as storage, with a lid to keep food warm or save leftovers later. While lack of temperature control can cause some users to get frustrated, if you’re chasing a cooking system that saves easy-to-use space, Crispi is a sure-fire choice.

  • Space savings

  • easy to use

  • Dishwasher and microwave cooking

  • Great food results

  • No temperature control

  • Smaller than a regular air fryer

Ninja Crispi: Introduction

  • capacity: 3.8L large plate, 1.4L small plate.
  • Dishwasher safe: The main components are safe for easy cleaning.
  • Microwave and freezer safety: Makes the leftovers of the dish very simple.

Unlike traditional air fryers, which are usually box-shaped issues like the Ninja’s own foodie flex drawer or the slimline double stack XL, the Ninja Crispi looks like a Pyrex oven dish with a flashy hat.

And that’s kind of thing. That flashy hat is the main cooking unit, which slots onto a temperature glass cooking dish to create an air fried food.

I’ve been using Ninja Crispi for a few weeks now, please read my full review.

Design and Components

  • Two temperature glass cooking dishes
  • 4 preset cooking modes
  • Stackable design for easy storage

Unlike standard air fryers, the Ninja Crispi uses removable glass containers rather than built-in trays.

The heating element, officially known as the “PowerPod”, clips a clip on the top of the container, providing a more modular and portable design. f

When you flip the PowerPod over, you will see the convection fan and cooking elements.

In the box, two borosilicate temperature glass dishes (1.4L and 3.8L) sit in a plastic holder that protects your feet and keeps them stable on the surface (by the way, these plastic bits don’t come off… since you haven’t read the manual first, no matter how hard you try).

These glass dishes can be used not only for cooking but also for serving. Also, the clip-on lid allows you to store food later.

If you need extra dishes, the Ninja sells replacements individually for £24.99/£34.99. The sizing between the UK and the US is actually a little different. Sizes 1.4L and 3.8L are the sizes listed on the UK-specific models we had for review.

In the US, the plate sizes are listed as 4-QT, 2.5-QT, and 6 cups. There are also a variety of configurations available for purchase on PowerPod, with additional dishes available starting at $32.99.

Whatever the size, all cooking takes place directly in a temperature container, with crisp plates to aid in airflow.

Inserting these plates is easy enough, stopping them when the rubber corners are sitting where they need them, but taking them out after the cook is obviously quite hot, so it takes a bit of effort.

The PowerPod sits directly on a 1.4L dish, but large dishes require an adapter. This is basically a trim that helps you sit between the two.

The cooking controls and a small screen are on top of the PowerPod, which is available in Sage Green, Stone, and three different colors to get this.

Cyberspace is blue in case you’re wondering. In the UK, Sharkninja lists this color as “blue”.

The controls on the top are simple. Along with the timer, there are four cooking modes: roast, air fries, recrux and keep warm.

There is no manual temperature control for cookers like Ninja’s more traditional air fryer or Woodfire Pro Connect XL.

This means that it is not capable of raising the heat for special clarity or lowering it for gentle cooking.

However, the included starter guide provides cooking time for a variety of food bundles, making it easy to get started. It’s a ninja and there is already an increasing community of users offering recipes and cooking suggestions online.

If you plan on using Crispi frequently, investing in a good pair of silicon tongs is a wise move. Food often needs to be central cooks, and small items can slip through the gaps in the crisper plates.

After cooking, the temperature dish is straightened on the table, and the power pod can be placed directly on the kitchen, with no risk of creating a burn mark.

All Crispi components except PowerPod are freezers, microwaves and dishwasher safe.

This means not only washing your time, but also storing and cooking leftovers is just as easy.

On top of that, I found that Recrisp mode is actually better than my usual challenge of pounding dinner debris in the microwave when I feel pex.

Storage is also easy, making big dishes bigger and power pods neatly stacked on top.

performance

  • Excellent cooking results
  • Food storage works well, but not a crisp item
  • Perfect for reheating leftovers

Despite the simplicity of the setup, the Ninja Crispi offers fantastic air fryer cooking performance.

I started with the obvious air fry feed, despite temperature control, fries, nuggets, breadcrumbs and chicken being evenly crispy, despite having been taking it slightly longer than a standard air fryer.

I took things a little more by trying out some of the recipes suggested in the Crispi guide.

First, I did some tiyaki tofu and broccoli.

Next, I did the tuna “toast”. This is what we call grilled cheese.

The bread was first dipped in the egg and jazzed up. The results were great and the cleanup was much easier compared to when doing this same thing using a Panini press.

One of the advantages of glass design is its visibility. You can watch the food cook without opening the fryer and losing heat. This avoided not overcooking items like broccoli. Broccoli cooks the tofu faster and turns to the cheese melting in the middle of the toast.

For roast mode, I think it’s just a slightly hot/scented version of the air fryer. Honestly, I don’t use it much, but I used it to do a simple pasta bake and it worked. You don’t need a crisp plate for something like this.

In Recrisp mode, I also took the time to use Crispi to heat leftovers that were not actually cooked in Crispi.

The rest of the pizza, chicken biryani scraps and a spoonful of talcadal, and even even the stir-fry, are fresher and definitely much better than if you had used a microwave.

Final Thoughts

The Ninja Crispi is different from the rest on the market. If you have the space for a traditional air fryer and you want more temperature control or extra cooking modes, you may be better off using a more traditional model.

However, if the space is tight, if you want the flexibility to cook in separate dishes, or something that requires something easy to use, it stands out as one of the most versatile air fryers I’ve tested.
