Google Assistant is dead, Long Live Google Gemini

It’s official… Google Assistant is on the last leg.

Google has confirmed that Google Assistant will be phased out in favor of Gemini, the search giant AI-driven assistant.

Of course, the migration has already begun, with millions of users switching new Android smartphones, and Gemini Revolution is expected to continue over the next few months.

In a blog post, Brian Marquardt, senior director of the Gemini app, wrote that more mobile users will be forced to switch from Google Assistant to Gemini, and later this year the classic assistants have disappeared from most mobile devices.

When that happens, the standalone Google Assistant app is also removed from the app store, effectively marking the end of that era.

However, on sites that focus on smart homes AmbientThe more interesting news is that beyond mobile, Google is expanding its Gemini reach to other devices that previously relied on Google Assistant.

The blog post states that tablets, cars, headphones and smartwatches all receive Gemini-powered upgrades, while smart home gadgets such as speakers, smart displays and TVs are set to get a “new experience” based on Gemini.

Details of what appears to be left under the wrap for now come when Google removed the cover from some new smart home hardware.

Google Gemini has already spread its wings into a smart home. At the end of last year, a new Google Home extension was released within the Gemini app, allowing Android users to control a wide range of smart home devices using natural language prompts.

This feature, part of the Google Home Public Preview program, allows users to operate devices such as lights, climate systems, and televisions, simply by directly entering or speaking commands directly into the Gemini AI Assistant.

This integration allows commands like “warm in the bedroom” and “lighten in the living room” to be run within the app without switching to Google Assistant, allowing Gemini to control multiple devices to suit the user’s commands.

Google Assistant first launched in 2016 and along with rivals like Siri and Alexa, played a major role in the surge in voice assistants in our daily lives.

However, as generative AI has been on the central stage for the past few years, Google has defended Gemini as the future.

And when Alexa Plus went live, it was only a matter of time before Google responded.
