Switchbot has officially launched its new roller shade range. Smart blinds are made from adjustable designs and interchangeable fabrics that set them apart from their rivals.
Unlike traditional electric shades that require accurate measurements before purchasing, the Switchbot approach allows users to fine-tune the width after installation, making it a more flexible and generous option.
Prices start at $199.99. This makes roller shades one of the most affordable smart blinds on the market.
A standout feature of the roller shade is the adjustable head rail, which can be changed to fit windows ranging from 22.8 inches to 72.8 inches wide.
You need to trim the excess fabric and adjust the frame to achieve the perfect fit. This eliminates the problem of incorrect measurements and ensures a perfect custom look without the hassle of ordering a made-to-order size.
Four base sizes are available: small (22.8-31.5 inches), medium (31.5-43.3 inches), large (43.3-55.1 inches), and extra large (55.1-72.8 inches).
Beyond its adjustability, the roller shade also introduces a fabric swapping system, allowing users to switch between different materials for power outages, UV protection, or thermal insulation.
Like most smart blinds, Switchbot products boast a variety of automation options, allowing users to schedule opening and closing times and integrate shades into a wider smart home routine.
It connects via Bluetooth, but when you add Switchbot Hub 2 to your mix, it works with major smart home ecosystems such as Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa.
Additionally, the latest hubs on Switchbot are material bridges, which adds material compatibility.
Installation requires a little practical effort as you will need to cut the fabric to size using built-in trimming tools.
Switchbot claims this process is simple, but it can take more time compared to the tints of the size beforehand.
The roller shade powers a rechargeable battery that lasts for up to 8 months on a single charge. You can also charge it via USB-C from a Power Pack or Plug Socket, or choose a $30 solar panel.
The system supports group controls of up to eight shades at once, allowing you to adjust the entire room simultaneously. Wired remotes are included in the box, but wireless remotes are available separately for $20.
You can order directly from Switchbot. Price ranges for a minimum size of $199.99/£169.99 and a maximum of $309.99/£269.99 for the XL.
It’s been a busy few weeks for Switchbots. Smart Home specialists have recently unlocked the covers of a new technological fire in Vegas at CES 2025, including the Bonkers K20+ Pro Modular Robot, and have recently announced an air purifier that will double as a bedside table.
