When Apple finally addressed the significant increase in the cost of memory and other components, the company did not hesitate. Some of the price increases were over 50%, and in some cases memory and storage upgrades literally doubled.
It is very likely that these high prices will continue for many years, perhaps forever…
9to5 mac Readers were already skeptical that Apple would cut prices even if the parts shortage eased. More than two-thirds said they expected the increase to be permanent.
A subsequent analyst report suggested that supply chain prices would not improve until 2028, and the effects would be limited. It is clear that the much higher pricing currently in place will continue for at least many years and will probably never be reversed.
How would you react if that actually turned out to be the case? Would you grit your teeth and keep buying Apple products at the same price? Would you buy Apple less or less often? Or would you take other steps, such as buying cheaper models, buying refurbished, or waiting for sales?
