Roborock Saros 10R vs Dreame X50 Ultra Complete: Which one should you buy?

The Roborock Saros 10R and Dreame X50 Ultra Complete sit at the top of the robot vacuum market, and both have garnered a lot of attention since their announcement at CES 2025. If you’re trying to choose between the two, you’re not alone. This is one of the most common questions we receive from our readers.

At The Ambient, we have thoroughly reviewed both machines with the sole purpose of helping you buy the best robot vacuum cleaner on the market. For the full picture, check out our full Roborock Saros 10R review and Dreame X50 Ultra Complete review. This article will give you a hands-on test of both of these to help you decide which one is right for your home.

Test method

Our reviews are not a quick run, but the result of living with each robot over an extended period of time.

We test each machine in real-world scenarios covering price and availability, design and construction, navigation and mapping, vacuuming and mopping performance, obstacle avoidance, smart home and app features, and pet-friendly performance.

The Dreame X50 Ultra Complete currently retails for around $850 / £643, while the Roborock Saros 10R retails for $1,000 / £756. That $150 difference is often the first thing buyers notice, and it’s a fair question whether Roborock justifies that premium. Based on our testing, the answer depends on what you need to do. This is explained in more detail below.

Roborock Saros 10R vs Dreame X50 Ultra complete design

The Roborock Saros 10R is similar to the Saros 10, but the main difference is under the hood. It ditches the LiDAR dome found on many rivals, including the Saros 10, in favor of the StarSight Autonomous System 2.0, which uses a dual-emitter 3D time-of-flight sensor built into the front of the robot. The result is the slimmest robot vacuum cleaner at just 7.98cm tall. This is especially useful if you have a lot of low furniture.

The Dreame X50 Ultra Complete takes a slightly different approach to its design, featuring a VersaLift sensor that retracts into the body when it detects low furniture, reducing its height to 8.9 cm. However, in most cases, the sensor is mounted on top and maintains a 360-degree, all-round view of the room, giving it a navigational advantage over Saros’s front-facing sensor.

Both machines use dual magnetic mop pads that the dock can automatically pull out when vacuum-only and lift these pads when carpet is detected. The Saros 10R can lift 12mm compared to 10.5mm on the X50.

Roborock Saros 10R vs Dreame X50 Ultra complete navigation and mapping

In our testing of both machines, neither had any real problems with day-to-day navigation. The Saros 10R’s sensor is on the front, so it scans differently than the top-mounted LiDAR, but as reviewers pointed out, there wasn’t really a noticeable difference in navigation ability.

When it comes to obstacle avoidance, both robots utilize AI-powered front cameras to avoid things like cables, shoes, and clutter. In our tests, both perform well and are much better than cheaper products.

When it comes to mapping, both apps allow you to set the floor type for each room, allowing the robot to make appropriate cleaning decisions, such as lifting the mop pad, increasing suction on the carpet, or avoiding the area entirely. Roborock gives you granular control over the carpet, allowing you to tell the machine to ignore it and only traverse it when necessary. After the first mapping run, the Dreame app prompts you to add detected carpets to your floor plan. While this is a useful feature, reviewers felt it was a little overzealous in mixed floor homes as it marks most of the floor as carpet. In our opinion, it works much better if you let it detect flooring automatically.

However, there is one major difference between the two that is worth pointing out. Roborock doesn’t offer a no-mop option, so this can be an issue for those with delicate floors. Dreame, on the other hand, gives you granular control over your mop with 30 different mop wetness levels.

Roborock Saros 10R vs Dreame X50 Ultra Complete Threshold Crossing

The two robot vacuums differ in their approach to climbing over thresholds such as door frames and high room dividers. Roborock Saros 10R uses an AdaptiLift chassis to lift the body up to 40 mm above the threshold. However, testing required manual configuration. Before the robot could work on it, the threshold needed to be added to the app’s map.

The Dreame X50 Complete, on the other hand, has telescoping legs that allow it to climb over obstacles. It can easily handle single steps up to 42 mm and double thresholds up to 60 mm, such as steps and sliding door rails. In our tests, the robot achieved this without any intervention.

If your home has complex floor changes, Dream has an advantage.

Roborock Saros 10R vs Dreame X50 Ultra Complete Performance

In our tests, both robots delivered excellent results vacuuming on hard floors and carpets, beating out edge cleaning, corner cleaning, everyday messes, and more. This is partly due to the fact that both machines are rated at 20,000Pa of suction power and feature extended side brushes that can reach crevices and slats to sniff out crumbs.

It also has an excellent pet hair management system. The Saros has a simple split main brush for removing pet hair, while the X50 Ultra Complete has a two-brush system. Both machines passed tests involving pet hair, but the Dream was able to pick up more hair than the Roborock.

As for mopping, in our testing, the Saros 10R was able to handle most stains in two passes, but it took four attempts to remove a stubborn ketchup stain. The Dreame X50 Ultra Complete performed similarly with advanced settings turned on, including dirt recognition and deep mop mode.

Both use dual spinning microfiber pads, each docked with 80°C water and dried with hot air.

The Roborock dock comes with two 3 liter trays for cleaning. Dirty water can be completely removed for easy disposal. The app will also remind you when to empty the tank and refill the clean tank, helping you plan your cleaning cycles better.

The Dreame dock has a slightly larger capacity at 4 liters, allowing the robot to take longer between refills, but removing the tray is a bit more cumbersome.

Both have a built-in detergent holder. The Dreame comes with a 250ml bottle out of the box, while the Saros does not. That being said, I’ve found that any hard floor cleaner works well.

In terms of apps, both offer integration with popular smart home systems like Alexa and Google Home, as well as Matter. However, if you want more freedom, we like that the Saros 10R is compatible with the Home Assistant open source platform.

Roborock Saros 10R vs Dreame X50 Ultra Complete Battery

The Dreame X50 Ultra Complete is rated at 220 minutes on its quietest setting, while the Saros 10R is rated at 180 minutes. In testing, both covered an entire floor on a single charge and had enough power for spot cleaning.

If I was going purely for the battery, I’d choose the Dream, but both should be sufficient for average household use.

Roborock Saros 10R vs Dreame X50 Ultra complete verdict

Both robot vacuums are great, but which one you choose depends entirely on your home and needs.

If you need the lowest possible profile to get under furniture, are building a smart home around your home assistant, or want more reliable carpet cleaning control, we recommend the Roborock Saros 10R. Yes, it’s more expensive, but the navigation and cleaning performance are worth the price.

If you have complex floor transitions that make Roborock difficult, Dreame X50 Ultra Complete is a better option. This is also a cheaper option and comes with detergent, representing better value than these two premium machines.
