macOS 27: 5 new Mac features coming next month

The launch of macOS 27 is just a few weeks away, and in addition to ending support for Mac 4 models, the new software version is rumored to be packed with AI features and some design updates. Here’s what’s coming:

#1: New Siri

Siri’s AI makeover is expected to be a key addition to nearly all of Apple’s software platforms, including iOS 27 as well as macOS 27.

The Mac is getting a new Siri app with a chatbot-style interface similar to those offered by ChatGPT and Google Gemini. Siri also adds new agent capabilities to perform actions across your Mac in response to user requests and what’s on your screen.

Other Siri improvements include LLM-powered world knowledge to answer more questions and perform searches, support for multi-action requests, and more.

#2: Organize tabs in Safari

Apple uses AI in macOS 27 to help you organize your tabs through the new Organize Tabs feature.

If your tabs are starting to get out of hand, Safari will now have a new Organize Tabs button that will automatically categorize your tabs into groups based on common topics.

While it’s not for everyone, if it works well, this new feature could be a useful tool for Safari users.

#3: Apple Photos editing features

Apple Intelligence powers three new image editing tools in macOS 27 and iOS 27.

According to Mark Gurman, these features are called Extend, Enhance, and Reframe.

  • stretch: “Allows the user to generate additional image content beyond the original frame”
  • strengthen: “Uses AI to automatically improve color, lighting, and overall image quality.”
  • reframing: “It is primarily designed for spatial photography and allows the user to change the perspective after taking a picture.”

Each new feature is expected to leverage new Gemini-powered versions of Apple Foundation Models.

#4: Creating shortcuts using natural language

Apple’s Shortcuts app makes creating custom shortcuts easier than ever.

It is reported that in macOS 27, users will be able to use natural language to write the shortcuts they want to build, and the shortcuts will be built automatically.

Thanks to Apple Intelligence, the Shortcuts app not only suggests actions, but can also create new actions to fulfill shortcut requests.

#5: Design changes and touch optimization

macOS 27 is also rumored to include design changes, which are expected to focus on two areas:

  1. Improvements in liquid glass design
  2. Optimized for future touch support

On the liquid glass front, macOS Tahoe has been criticized for not offering as strong a redesign as iOS 26. bloomberg Common quirks such as shadows and transparency will be fixed.

When it comes to touch optimization, the new MacBook Ultra will be available later this year as the first touchscreen Mac. For this reason, some small UI changes are expected to improve touch support.
