Apple Watch Series 12: What we know so far

As it does every year, this September, Apple will introduce the next generation of Apple Watch models. Apple Watch Series 12 is likely to inherit the same design language as Apple Watch Series 11, but with some changes. Let’s dive in.

new chipset

Apple introduces a truly new chipset in the Apple Watch about every three years. The A13 Bionic-based S6 chip arrived in 2020, and the A16 Bionic-based S9 chip arrived in 2023. Sure, there are chips in between, but the S9 was the latest upgrade in terms of new CPU cores.

Series 12 is expected to have upgraded CPU cores. It’s probably based on a 3nm design similar to the A19 chip, but we don’t know for sure.

In any case, if you’re someone who buys an Apple Watch and wants to use it for a long time, the Series 12 might be worth it for the chipset alone.

touch id

One of the new rumors for Apple Watch Series 12 is support for Touch ID. The first thing I discovered was mac world It looks like this feature may never come to fruition due to a code leak.

The company’s major concern was the fact that Touch ID could take away additional battery capacity and health features. I’m not saying never, but it seems unlikely that the Apple Watch Series 12 will have Touch ID.

health function

Rumors have teased the possibility of a full-fledged blood pressure monitor, expanded hypertension tracking, and blood sugar monitoring, but there’s nothing concrete about the new health features coming to the Apple Watch this year.

summary

Apple Watch Series 12 is expected to maintain the same design language, display size, and overall aesthetic as Apple Watch Series 11. Of course, Apple could introduce new colors at any time, and there’s always the possibility of new proprietary software.

However, given the current rumors, don’t expect anything particularly flashy.
