Apple discounts iPhones in China ahead of annual 618 shopping festival

As it has been doing since at least 2021, Apple is discounting iPhones in China as part of China’s 618 Shopping Festival. Here are the details:

Some models may reach their lowest prices since launch

In recent years, Apple, along with other major consumer electronics brands, has participated in the 618 Shopping Festival, one of China’s largest annual shopping events.

It is a major mid-year online retail event that began as the JD.com Anniversary Sale and has since expanded across the country’s largest e-commerce platform.

Last year, Apple offered limited-time trade-in discounts during its sales festival in China, while JD.com and other local online retailers listed iPhone 16 models at discounts of up to 2,530 yuan (about $351 at the time).

This reportedly allowed Apple to reverse previous sales declines in the country. In the first quarter of 2025, Apple was the only major smartphone vendor to see a decline in shipments in China, but by the second quarter, iPhone shipments were up 4% year over year, according to Canalys data.

This year, according to reports, Global Times (via mac magazine), Apple is one of the first to participate in the 618 Shopping Festival, and starting today, the price of the iPhone 17 Pro series will be reduced by 1,000 yuan (approximately $146).

The report notes that JD.com offers even greater discounts.

JD.com, one of China’s largest online retailers, has shown that some iPhone 17 Pro models can be purchased at prices as low as 6,999 yuan, the lowest since the series’ launch, after applying direct discounts and trade-in subsidies at its own-operated flagship store for Apple products.

Apple’s latest basic model flagship phone, the standard iPhone 17, also received a significant price cut for the first time since its launch, with some versions priced at 4,499 yuan after receiving multiple subsidies and trade-in offers.

The report also quoted an employee at an Apple outlet in Beijing as saying, “The latest discounts may be combined with trade-in subsidies and platform promotions, and some models may reach their lowest prices since launch.”
