Govee has expanded its range of outdoor lighting with outdoor solar string lights. This is the company’s first solar-powered product and is the brand’s answer to a segment that has traditionally offered little more than basic on/off lighting.
The lights mark Govee’s entry into solar-powered outdoor lighting as the category sees increasing interest from consumers, particularly those seeking low-maintenance alternatives to mains-connected garden string lights that require proximity to an outdoor power socket.
Color performance is at the heart of the product, and the lights use Govee’s LuminBlend system to produce smoother transitions between shades and a more refined output than the flat, static tones that define most solar-powered string lights on the market today.
This soft white mode addresses one of the common criticisms of color-enabled smart string lights. Smart string lights often create a noticeably artificial quality when set to warmer tones rather than matching the output of traditional outdoor lighting.
Power is provided by a 6W solar panel, which Govee says can charge about 50% faster than a standard 4W panel. The manufacturer claims that this system provides up to 13 hours of continuous illumination from a full charge under suitable solar conditions.
The light has an IP67 waterproof rating, which puts it in the same range of durability as outdoor products made to withstand exposure to continuous rain as well as light splashes, but many competing solar string lights don’t reach that threshold.
Govee CEO Eric Wu said the product reflects the brand’s intention to bring more expressive color options to solar power. Wu explained that the category has long had limited creative scope compared to mains power alternatives.
The Outdoor Solar String Lights are currently available in the US for $99.99 through Amazon and Govee’s online store. The product is listed on Govee’s EU Coming Soon page, suggesting a wider regional launch is in the works.
While Govee has not confirmed an EU release schedule, active listings indicate the brand intends to expand availability beyond the US market in the coming months.
