Apple has added the plain M5 MacBook Pro to its refurbished store at a discounted price. However, with changes to base storage from last month, the value compared to new discounted hardware may not be as competitive as usual.
Apple’s 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro refurbishment includes a 512GB SSD
When Apple introduced the M5 MacBook Pro in October, the 14-inch laptop originally came with 512GB of storage and was priced at $1,599.
Last month, Apple revised its hardware and raised its price. The base storage has changed to 1TB and the starting price has increased to $1699.
Although the starting price of the M5 MacBook Pro has increased, the 1TB model now costs less than before when configured as an upgrade.
Apple’s refurbished M5 MacBook Pro has 512GB of storage and is discounted based on the original retail price of $1599. Refurbished machines are discounted by $240, bringing the price to $1359.
A 1TB version of the same machine is sold new on Amazon, currently priced at $1549.
While this is still higher than the refurbished price, it’s still a significant savings over Apple’s new price, especially since it has double the storage compared to the refurbished model.
A16 iPad refurbished product price
Apple also added the iPad (A16) to its refurbished store, offering $50 off the base model. This is the same price as the new model on Amazon.
However, Apple’s iPad refurbished models also have storage and cellular upgrade options.
