Apple’s MacBook Pro is getting a major refresh this year, and it’s shaping up to be exactly what I wanted. This is why I’m optimistic about the biggest changes coming later this year.
One of my favorite iPhone features now on Mac
When Apple added a notch to the MacBook Pro’s display in 2021, it felt like a design compromise without any benefit. For comparison, when the iPhone X debuted with a notch, the trade-off was obvious. It had a notch, but it also had Face ID.
Mac Face ID is still years away, but the next MacBook Pro will bring big changes.
I’ve written about this before, but love Dynamic Island for iPhone. This is a genius way to present real-time information.
I love the Now Playing information on Apple Music and Overcast. I love Carrot Weather’s precipitation forecast. I love Apple Sports scores. I love tracking Uber arrival times. I love tracking my flight information with Flighty.
According to today’s report, bloombergDynamic Islands is finally coming to Mac, and I couldn’t be happier.
The MacBook Pro’s dynamic island will reportedly be “built around a punch-sized cutout for your computer’s camera.” It is smaller than the pill-shaped notch on the iPhone 17 Pro.

Touchscreen MacBook Pro interactions
Additionally, today’s report gives us confidence that Apple isn’t going to slap the MacBook Pro’s touchscreen and be done with it. It’s reassuring to hear that Apple is making certain optimizations to macOS to not only support touch input, but also improve the experience.
Below is Mark Gurman’s description of some of the exchange.
“For example, when a user touches a button or control, the interface displays a new type of menu around the finger, providing more relevant options for touch commands.
The software also displays the most appropriate set of controls based on the user’s previous actions. Additionally, tapping an item in the menu bar at the top of the screen expands the set of controls, making them easier to select with your finger. ”
I’m still concerned about the potential side effects and compromises Apple would have to make to add a touchscreen to the Mac. How will the overall design change? Will Apple have to compromise on battery life and heat?
There are a lot of unknowns, but now that I know more about the touchscreen software implementation, I’m optimistic.
New MacBook Pro summary
According to Apple, this completely revised version of the MacBook Pro is currently scheduled to be released this fall. bloomberg. Apple is expected to release M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro models as early as next month.
In addition to dynamic islands and touchscreens, new MacBook Pro models will reportedly use OLED displays. sign. myself. above.
