Sonos has plans to bring the much-requested audio control feature to iOS, but don’t expect the company to rush it before it’s ready.
Bloomberg’s Chris Welch has the scoop on Sonos’ new approach to improving the app.
Sonos Inc. plans to simplify its iPhone and Android apps in the coming months with updates focused on improved navigation and easy-to-use controls. But after a failed app release in 2024 nearly sent the entire company into chaos, Sonos’ new CEO isn’t taking any risks this time around.
Although this update is not a new change, the changes are still important. Tom Conrad, who took over as CEO last July after leading the company on an interim basis for several months, said in an interview with Bloomberg News that the upcoming improvements will improve the experience when managing the company’s audio product line.
One change in development specifically for iOS users is lock screen playback control access to easily control Sonos speakers. Sonos just brought this feature to Android, but there’s no solution for iPhone users yet.
However, Sonos plans to use Apple’s Live Activities feature to bring an equivalent version of lock screen playback controls to iOS. For the full picture, see this article from Bloomberg.
The same thing is happening today as well. Sonos CEO posted feedback on Reddit.
