Rumor has it that Apple is preparing big changes for its future iPhone lineup, and this fall is a prime example of that.
First, the iPhone 18 is not expected to be released until early 2027. Additionally, there are no reports regarding the release date of the iPhone Air successor.
At this point, it looks like Apple’s fall iPhone lineup will be the smallest in years.

Pro and Pro Max models tend to differ only in size, meaning that users actually have two main choices: the Pro or the Fold. And camera capabilities can play a role in that decision process.

What about the iPhone fold?
The foldable model should have a main camera that’s roughly equivalent to the Pro line, but the addition of variable aperture is expected to be exclusive to the Pro for now.
And the iPhone Fold will no longer be equipped with a telephoto lens. The two rear cameras are rumored to be the main camera and an ultra-wide camera.
So while iPhone Fold users will no longer have access to a telephoto camera, iPhone 18 Pro users will get an even better telephoto lens thanks to a wider aperture.
How much these features influence your purchasing decision will depend on your specific needs. But as an iPhone Air user, I sometimes have second thoughts about skipping the iPhone 17 Pro, but it will definitely factor into my decision this fall.
