Pluribus has had many alternative titles, but this is the “worst title of all” by Vince Gilligan

Pluribus Season 1 has concluded, and creator Vince Gilligan revealed in an interview during the show how difficult it was to come up with a meaningful final title.

Vince Gilligan said that Pluribus had about 100 different title ideas, and one of them was the worst.

Before the Apple TV series, “pluribus” wasn’t a word you heard every day.

The show’s title was inspired by the Latin word “e pluribus unum,” which means “one among many.” It was much more commonly used in the early United States.

But before arriving at “Pluribus” and its clever meaning as a title, Vince Gilligan revealed in a recent interview that there could have been more than 100 alternative ideas in contention.

Although Gilligan didn’t share the complete list, he did reveal what he called the “worst list.”

Its potential titles are: Be kind and remind me.

Gilligan shared the title with Josh Horowitz on his podcast Happy Sad Confused. he said:

We’ve been in the title desert for over a couple of years, trying to figure it out. (…)

There was a list of close to 100, probably more than 100 titles. The worst song I can say was “Be Kind, Remind.”

Considering its meaning and the premise of the series, Pluribus seems like the perfect title. At this point, it’s hard to imagine it being called anything else. Of course not. Be kind and remind me.

But as Gilligan has revealed in other interviews, the creative process can sometimes take much longer than expected. Here’s hoping season 2’s developments prove to be an exception.

Apple TV is available for $12.99 per month and includes popular TV shows and movies like Ted Lasso, Severance, and Pluribus. Also available through the Apple One bundle.
