Wyze is quietly leveling up one of its most popular budget devices with the launch of the Wyze Lock Bolt v2.
This is an updated version of the entry-level smart lock with built-in Wi-Fi. The best part? The price is still $79.98, the same as the original model.
The first Rock Bolt was a good “smart-ish” choice, but it relied entirely on Bluetooth. That meant no remote locking, no real-time alerts, and no proper integration with voice assistants. All of them have been fixed in v2. Built-in Wi-Fi lets you lock or unlock your doors from anywhere, check your activity log on the go, and use Alexa or Google Assistant for hands-free control. This is all the features you would normally expect from a more expensive model.
Wyze hasn’t changed its overall formula, and that’s a good thing. The fingerprint sensor remains one of the fastest in its class, unlocking the door in about 0.5 seconds. Biometric data is also stored locally, ensuring privacy. The keypad has been upgraded to a more sophisticated tempered glass touchpad that is smudge resistant and now has illuminated numbers for clear visibility at night.
This lock supports up to 50 access codes, plus temporary passcodes for visitors that expire automatically. And for those worried about someone watching over their shoulder, Wyze lets you hide the actual numbers by adding random numbers before and after the code.
Battery life will be affected slightly, up to around eight months instead of a year, but the Wyze has added a USB-C emergency port so you can temporarily power the lock if the battery dies. There are also traditional key options for backup.
A built-in tamper alarm provides extra security, and if you’re already using the Wyze Video Doorbell, you can unlock your door directly from the Live View screen.
At less than $80, the Lock Bolt v2 now offers the features you would normally expect from a smart lock for twice the price. The addition of Wi-Fi not only improves the experience, but also turns the lock into a truly attractive option for those looking for app control, remote access, and the latest smart home support without paying premium lock prices.
