Rode deployed major firmware updates for Rodecaster video this week, transforming the iPhone into a powerful wireless camera source.
This update adds NDI support and is available at no additional cost.
NDI (Network Device Interface) is the industry standard for high quality low latency video over IP.
With the new update, Rodecaster video can receive up to four NDI inputs and output one stream over Ethernet, making it easy to connect cameras and devices on the same network without a dedicated cable.
The big news for Apple users is support for the Rode Capture app on iOS.
Upon updating, the iPhone acts as a wireless video input for Rodecaster video with dual cam mode.
This allows you to stream two separate feeds or one of the front and rear cameras at the same time.
This means that a single iPhone can capture both sides of an interview or commentary setup without additional hardware.
This configuration works particularly well with the Awesome Rode Wireless Micro or Rode Wireless Go 3, which is used as the iPhone audio input.
iPhone video input works wirelessly over the same wireless network on wired when using an Ethernet adapter.
Rode says the firmware also adds PTZ camera controls, advanced keying tools, automatic switching tied to audio on the Rodecaster Pro II and DUO, as well as various workflow improvements.
“This update will bring Rodecaster video to a whole new league,” says Road CEO Damien Wilson. “By adding NDI for free, we are providing creators with the network-based production that was once reserved for high-end broadcast systems. Now everyone can access it.”
Updates are currently available. Currently, Rode Capture is only available on iPhones. Rodecaster videos are available on Amazon and the Rode Online Store.
