Apple quietly canceled the release of Savant. This was scheduled to be a hit on Apple TV+ on Friday, September 26th. However, as of today, the Jessica Chastain series has no longer released dates. Apple mentions the show’s launch from social media channels, and when you check in the TV app itself it says “it’ll come later.”
It’s not entirely clear why the show was pulled out of the schedule…
The plot for the series has not yet been wrapped as it hasn’t aired yet, but it is believed to revolve around Chastian’s character permeating radical online groups to find and stop the act of terrorism.
The plot point could overlap too closely with the recent real-world events of the Charlie Kirk assassination, which remains a controversial topic in the media.
When the series’ trailer was released in August, it also received a lot of backlash for the obvious portrayal of political issues. Some suggested that it was a biased representation of extremism or a misrepresentation of right-wing ideology. There was also a considerable portion of misogynistic criticism that I thought clearly thought that women could do the job of guiding themselves in an online “incel” group without detection.
Whatever the reason, the facts will no longer be revealed for the first time on September 26th. If you’re looking forward to the release, this is of course a shame and you don’t know how long it has to air.
In fact, this is not the first Apple TV+ title to be indeed delayed from its release.
The third season of popular international thriller Tehran enveloped production in 2023, but the release date for Apple TV+ has been on hold since the outbreak of the Israeli Hamas War. Season 3 actually aired in full full on the Israeli Can 11 network in December 2024, but Apple remains a mother when it can expect a global streaming release.
update: Apple has confirmed the deadline without providing further context surrounding the decision. “After careful consideration, we have decided to postpone Savant and look forward to releasing the series on a future date.”
